No surprise but 2020 has been a troubling time for most people due to the ever-present Corona Virus which has negatively impacted many businesses. In response, most, if not all, businesses have had to adapt to new situations such as self-quarantining and enhanced social distancing to keep employees and consumers safe. These kinds of responses have taken a toll on the auto industry and have put Credit Unions at a disadvantage when competing for their members’ auto financing needs. Credit Union Acceptance Company (CUAC) has taken the necessary steps to ensure that our staff remain healthy and safe while making sure that our indirect lending services don’t miss a beat.
For almost 14 years now, Fortera Credit Union in Clarksville, Tennessee has operated a very successful indirect program using the services provided by Credit Union Acceptance Company, LLC (CUAC). In early 2006, Fortera contracted with CUAC to provide its Full-Service Indirect Program which included dealer representation, underwriting, loan processing, funding and all back-off related tasks such as charge-back processing, title services, etc. Over the course of the next 13 years, with a lot of hard work by both parties, the program grew tremendously.
In late 2016, we were fortunate enough to be contacted by Chris Hay, President & CEO of Dannemora Federal Credit Union in Dannemora, New York, regarding their exploration efforts into whether an indirect lending program would be a good fit for their credit union. Chris had many of the normal concerns that we encounter when working through the discovery phase with prospective clients:
Prior to joining the CUAC family earlier this year, Amarillo Community Federal CU, like many other credit unions across the country, was operating an indirect program using a patchwork of manual tools. Scott Rose, the new President and CEO, began to look at all facets of the credit union’s operations to determine how best to become more efficient and effective. The indirect lending program was one of his first stops.
For my colleagues who have worked in the indirect lending space for any length of time, who can remember ALL the way back to 2000? It seems like yesterday that we were hunkered down in our basements with our MREs waiting for the inevitable doomsday events of Y2K that never quite happened. It seems like yesterday but almost 2 full decades ago were the days of receiving credit applications across the fax machine from our dealer partners.
